Help & FAQ

Quick answers for customers posting a clearance job and for carriers quoting on one. For a full walkthrough of the process, see how it works; for carrier requirements, see work with us.

For customers

Posting a job, getting quotes, and what to expect from carriers.

How does the price estimate work?

You pick items, upload a photo, or describe the job, and that description is what carriers see once you post the job - no contact details needed until then. It's a range, not a fixed quote - the final price depends on exact volume, access, and what carriers in your postcode are running that week. See how it works for the full flow.

What happens after I post a job?

Licensed carriers covering your postcode are notified and can see your job details - what needs clearing, your rough date, and access notes. They quote with their own price and earliest available date, and you compare quotes and pick one, or none.

How do carrier quotes work?

Several licensed carriers see the same job and quote independently with their own price and date, rather than you getting one fixed quote. You compare real, live prices from carriers actually available on your date and choose on price, date, or whichever matters most to you.

Am I obliged to accept a quote?

No. You can let quotes come in and simply not choose one if none of them suit you. There's no charge for getting an estimate or posting a job - you only pay the carrier you actually book with.

What does "same-day" mean?

A same-day request means you need the clearance done on the day you post it. It naturally gets fewer bidders than jobs booked a week or two out, since it depends on which carriers in your area happen to have capacity that day.

What if no one quotes on my job?

This can happen for very short-notice dates or postcodes with fewer active carriers. You can extend your date range or adjust the job details to make it easier for a carrier to quote on.

How is disposal and recycling handled?

Carriers you book through houseclearance.co must hold a valid waste carrier licence and take what they collect to a licensed waste transfer or recycling facility, not an unlicensed dumping ground. See responsible disposal and waste carrier licence for the full detail on why this matters and how it's checked.

Is there a cost just to get a quote?

No. Posting a job costs nothing and doesn't commit you to anything, and posting a job is free too. You only pay the carrier whose quote you accept.

For carriers

Licensing, vetting, quoting, and coverage for waste carriers.

What licence do I need to quote on jobs?

You need a valid upper-tier waste carrier licence - the legal requirement in England for anyone moving household or commercial waste for payment. This is a baseline, non-negotiable condition of being listed. See waste carrier licence for what that means and how it's checked.

Do I need insurance as well as a licence?

Yes, appropriate insurance is also expected alongside a valid waste carrier licence. See insurance and safety for the current detail on that.

How does vetting work?

Carriers are expected to hold a valid waste carrier licence and appropriate insurance before they can quote on jobs - that's how the carrier network stays made up of accountable, legitimate operators rather than anyone able to quote. See work with us for the full requirements.

How does quoting work for carriers?

When a customer posts a job in an area you cover, you can see the job details - what needs clearing, the postcode, and any access notes or photos - and submit a quote with your price and availability. You keep control over which jobs you quote on and what you charge.

What areas of London are covered?

houseclearance.co covers London-wide, and carriers quote on jobs in the postcodes they cover. See coverage map for the current borough breakdown.

How do I register as a carrier?

Carrier registration isn't open yet - houseclearance.co is currently a development prototype with sample data rather than a live carrier network. See work with us for what's required when onboarding opens, and get in touch via contact under "Carrier support" if you'd like to be notified.

Is there a cost to join as a carrier?

Commercial terms are still being finalised. Nothing is being charged today, and any future fee or commission structure will be published clearly before it applies to carriers. See work with us for the latest.

More detailed help articles are coming soon. For now, the FAQs above and the linked pages cover the current prototype.
